Music Review: Framing Hanley - The Moment

The Moment is the debut release for a band that has only been around for a couple of years, forming in 2005. They were noticed by Brett Hestla, frontman of Dark New Day, and in 2006 helped them record a two song demo which led them to the Silent Majority Group, and ultimately the release of this debut LP in 2007. Framing Hanley has succeeded in adding to the glut of radio friendly rock acts, while still injecting a decent amount of catchy melody into the mix.

Framing Hanley is a band name that makes me wonder if the well of good band names has finally run dry. Yes, I occasionally shake my head in bemused wonder at some of the bands that I like and the wacky names they have given themselves. As I look at Framing Hanley, I have a bemused look and have to wonder what possessed them to choose that name. I am sure there is some meaning, and that is well and good, I just don't particularly care for it. They used to be called Embers Fade, and I believe they had to change it due to another band already claiming rights to it, it is a much better name. Be that as it may, I am sure you could truly care less what I have to say about their name.

Framing Hanley is not a bad band, but for the probable talent they have, the music plays everything toward the middle. They are highly reminiscent of "Breaking Benjamin," and have more radio friendly hooks than you can shake a stick at. It is the kind of middle of the road music that belies what they could probably do if not being marketed at that radio friendly market. There is nothing wrong with aiming for the radio, so long as you are still making the music you want. However, I am not convinced that this is all they have in them.

Sort of repeating what Larry just said. Ashley was a major part of the group and was tragically lost on the verge of their success. The band decided that they would spend their music career framing her...Framing Hanley...in order to show how much they truly love her as well as miss her.
As for the music, I have to disagree. I haven't heard any band quite like them.

I seriously don't understand how anyone could says that the songs are just so 'forgettable'. Are you effing serious? This guy obviously doesn't know what good music is, and he needs to do a little research on the bands before he goes and talks about them. It's not difficult to see where they got their name from. It's actually really easy, lol. Anyway, point is, Framing Hanley is FAR from forgettable.

the naming Framing Hanley actually came from, yes Ashley Hanley, but framing because she was more-or-less the band's photographer :o)
she took lots of pictures of the band, "framing" their climb to success..
    hence Framing Hanley

I saw them last night at their concert in nashville and it was the best concert i have ever been to. Not only were their two opening bands great, they put on an amazing show. I have to wait in the cold and fight my near the stage. After the show, i talked to each of them and took pictures. they were SO down to earth and were so personable. They are no doubt my favorite band.

Seen them twice now, both with the former Evans Blue. I didn't really pay that much attention to then until "Lollipop" Man those guitar riffs, what a phenominal remake they've done with this song. I can't wait to see them again

i love the name framing hanley, even before i knew the meaning behind it, now i love it even more. i dont understand what he is saying about them aiming for radio. not that i know them personally (boy do i wish) but they strike me as a band that plays for themselves and their fans, not really caring about the radio. i think theyre perfect how they are but i think they will be getting better with time!!! love how they sound live, nixon's voice is amazing, there arent too many singers out there anymore that can just sing and sound like their album. anyways dont hate cuz theyre amazing

They are not going to last. We spent the weekend with them and Nixon physically attacked his band members twice! It was like beeing someone who is bipolar and unstable it was insane!
