Music Review: Def Leppard, Night Ranger, Rush, Soul Doctor, Top Gun Cowboy, and Munk - Page 2

Part of: Marty's Musical Meltdown

It is good to see Night Ranger back at their best. This is a band that many discounted but in the end their talent always wins out. A worthy companion to releases this year by Whitesnake and Def Leppard.

Rush: Snakes and Arrows Live

On the back of their most recent return to form, Snakes and Arrows, Rush release yet another live CD. Now with most other bands this would be taking the piss, how many live CD's do you really need? However, this being Rush, they give you 23 tracks of them in all their live glory. With the increase in technology, the band continued to come closer and closer to capturing their live epic sound. It is hard not to have a smile on your face when listening to the final encore of "YYZ".

This collection covers all their eras and machinations. This is the best live Rush CD since Exit Stage Left. If you don't have a live Rush CD then it's hard not to recommend this and the pleasure it gave me listening to this it's hard not to recommend it full stop. Let's face it Rush just does not release rubbish.

Soul Doctor: That's Live!

Soul Doctor have released That's Live! recorded in Europe between 2005-2007. The album contains the band playing the best of their tracks from various albums including their title track from whence they got their name "Soul Doctor". This is a great run through of their best and shows the band for the talent that they are. A good introduction to those who don't know the band Soul Doctor and a good reminder for those who do of how good these guys are. Live albums can sometimes be a hard sell if you don't know the band but this one rises above and is quite a good introduction.

Agreed on all counts about Snakes & Arrows Live being the best live Rush disc since Exit Stage Left..., it smokes A Show of Hands, Different Stages, Rio, and R30. The reasons vary as to why whether it be sound, crowd, set list, or just overall vibe from the entire package.

It is worth it for Digital Man, Mission, Circumstances, Entre Nous, Between The Wheels, Witch Hunt, A Passage To Bangkok, Subdivisions, and Malignant Narcissism alone.

Too bad nobody really knows the disc is out there and won't pick it up because Rush has so many live packages out already.
