The stripped down acoustic intimacy that is “Hey Melvin”, and the next track,“Keep It To Yourself” maintain the album’s undoubted quality. It ends with “You’re Not The Only One” a track that underlines those Sunday Times Beatles comments with just a hint of “Tomorrow Never Knows” hidden within.
It is high time that the music of Daniel Wylie broke free from whatever it is that keeps it one of our ‘best kept secrets’. If you are only just arriving, don’t worry, it is a surprisingly strong place at which to come in. You can travel forwards or backwards and enjoy the melodic sunshine of this excellent song writer. It is a trip well worth taking.
In fact, sometimes you do have to go backwards to make a forward journey. You can do that by getting hold of a copy of The Very Best Of Daniel Wylie And The Cosmic Rough Riders (Neon Tetra Records). It contains some more beautifully sublime tracks such as “Revolution (In The Summertime)”, “Glastonbury Revisited”, “The Gun Isn’t Loaded”, “Can You Feel The Love”, and a demo of “The Loser, among many others.
