There are few things more enjoyable than an album that jumps up and slaps you in the face as soon as it hits the speakers. Formed in the frigid climate of Buffalo, New York, Damiera delivers an unrelenting sonic assault so invincible that it almost makes the albums ridiculously spelled title forgivable.
While many Bands can easily accomplish the aforementioned “sonic assault” with a barrage of instruments, there is a bit of a handicap in the ranks of Damiera that the band overcomes considering they are a three piece. The band compensates with a barrage of guitar and bass riffs that are only an arms length short of the musical prowess of other three-pieces like Rush and Talas, the three-piece power trio formed by the former Bass Player of David Lee Roth’s solo band, Billy Sheenan.
Seasoned listeners will hear elements of early R.E.M. and Talking Heads throughout the album, while younger fans will probably liken the band to groups like Minus the Bear and At the Drive-In. While the band seems to be aiming for distaff concerns with their lyrics, the whole of the record is enjoyable as a unisex affair in the spirit of a really good date movie. All in all, it’s a good step forward from the bands debut E.P. that was released in early 2005.
