Music Review: Crash Test Dummies - Oooh La La! - Page 3

For those who are making plans to see them on their current tour in support of Oooh La La! you'll be hearing slightly different versions of the songs than what appears on the disc as they won't be touring with any of the toys. In fact it won't even be the full line up from the past as only Brad Roberts and Ellen Reid accompanied by Stuart Cameron on guitar will be heading out on the road. It should be interesting to hear how the songs hold up to being performed in this more stripped down setting. I doubt they'll be coming to Kingston, Ontario — people only do if their tour bus breaks down between Montreal and Toronto — so if you happen to catch them in concert I'd love to hear about it.

When I used to work in the cultural industries (gov't funding of the arts), the debut album by the Crash Test Dummies was one of the albums we helped to fund, and it became the number 1 album in Canada. For sure, Brad Roberts' voice is the one constant in their sound. I'm looking forward to hearing this new recording.

This album is beautiful! It's the best they've done since God Shuffled His Feet, maybe even the best period.

I just saw the Crash Test Dummies on June 11th at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The show was great! Stuart, the guitarist is an amazing player and was a able to supply the backing for Brad and Ellen's vocals, kind of a one man band. They played a bunch of songs from the new CD and some hits from the past. Brad was very funny with his comments between songs and Ellen, besides being beautiful, was wonderful on backing vocals and singing a couple herself. I had a smile plastered on my face throughout the concert. Brad and Ellen came out afterwards and greeted fans, signing CDs and t-shirts. We drove 5 hours to see them and it was well worth it.

    Richard,

I just read your review of CTD's Oooh La-La and could not agree more. I recently saw the more acoutical version of CTD's tour at The Infinity Music Hall in Norfalk, Connecticut. I didn't expect much other than a night out with my wife. Brad & Ellen were absolutely fabulous! Brad's voice is so distinctive that it made me forget there was only a guitar accompanying the two of them. I had not heard any tracks from Oooh La-La prior to that night. After the show my wife and I decided to buy the CD and have Brad & Ellen autograph it. Once we gave it a listen the music grabbed us by surprise and just can't get enough of CTD new and old. Brad is a genuine performer and seems to love just being himself with the crowd. Your review is right on and the Tour, now over, was excellent. Can't wait to see them on the east coast again. I can't believe that the track "And it's Beautiful" is not making a chart noise.

Just got back from the "Crash Test" show in Ann Arbor...HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! After a few years of being off the map, I searched about 10 websites to see if the band was going to all be together, before I pulled the trigger on buying tix $80.00, I didn't have the money but bought anyways since their official website assured that the lead would be with the band.........NO BAND..... ONLY THE LEAD SINGER AND A COUPLE NOBODYS..... AND ACOUSTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no mention of this anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK! They sucked. If that wasn't bad enough, I went to get a drink for my girlfriend, who I had been selling this band to for the last two weeks, and after waiting in line, the bartender asks me if I was a member.... a member of what!?... a member of the Ark (the venue)... NO I'm not" "we can only serve members" FUCK! "there is a table over there where you can become a member; for a fee" FUCK!!!
Had to leave the venue and go next door, buy two beers at a high class place, croch them, and return to help alleviate opur anguish THANKS FOR NOTHING you lying motherfuckers. not giving us the info we needed to make a decision before letting go of $200.00 is the equivilant of lying.... fuck you, I will never go to anything CTD again, you guys suck!
