Chris Cornell's first solo album since 1999 falls flat in a big way.
Chris Cornell's first post-Soundgarden release, 1999's Euphoria Morning, was an artistic triumph and a commercial flop. Apparently, most of the fans who loved him in Soundgarden didn't care for his more introspective side. Perhaps in response, Cornell hooked up with three quarters of Rage Against the Machine to form Audioslave. Anxious to get to work on his second solo album, Cornell left Audioslave after three albums last February.…

It’s very simple for me â€" this man soothes the soul and gives peace of mind â€" his voice is as powerful as ever and has changed my life for the better and will continue to do so with every note he sings. He takes us to different levels with every song he writes and every one is a joy to listen to. I say the album is a must for those who have never heard his past work and to all those who have and who have loved. I thank him dearly for every word he writes.

Carry On grow slowly in me...I understand, that for some old fans of Soundgarden, it is maybe not easy to 'accept' at first listening..but it definitly worths it!

It's very sad how critics and so-called Cornell fans don't even give his new record a chance.
It takes some time getting use to but it's worth it. I find myself humming to songs that didn't wow me in the beginning. Example is "Finally Forever". It's elegant, beautiful.. pure and simple. I believe Chris sang it to his wife on their wedding day if I'm not mistaken. What's wrong with his newly found optimistic and happy approach that he now incorporates into his music. Does he have to write about depressed music for the rest of his life? The answer is no. Who honestly wants a dark cloud always hanging above their head.
I was pleasantly surprised when a few songs got me up off the chair dancing. No head banging mind you. Rump shakin. lol
I love the song "Your Soul Today" and bonus track "Today". His lyrics and voice are beautiful and soulful on this album.
Honestly, give this one a chance. You will be pleasantly surprised like I was.
Songs that sound better live than the album cut "Scar Upon the Sky" on acoustic, and the bluesy, powerful "Billie Jean". That performance gave me goose bumps. Chris never did that before. I've been a fan of his for over 14 years AND even saw him in concert 3 times before this album was ever conceived. 2 times in Soundgarden mind you. His voice sounds better than ever.
I will see him my third time this year July 18th.
Don't pass on this album and don't miss his concert if he comes to your town. Believe me you'll be kicking yourself!

Give Carry On a listen. It has some interesting tracks and various music styles compared to his previous CD.

I love his new cd, Carry On! It gets better and better the more I listen to it and is on its way to being one of my favorites. It's different than anything he's done, which is refreshing. It's still Chris Cornell though...creative lyrics, great music, amazing voice! I think it shows his maturity personally and as an artist. The album has something for everyone and would fit in with any collection, regardless of your main music taste. He is great live too!

Carry On is performed by the voice of a vocal God- Chris Cornell sings with soul at a depth most people could not appreciate nor understand. Beautiful variety is what Chris provides to his listeners. He is a man with scars and success and you feel that in his lyrics. Brilliant vocalist with a soul so rich and beautiful...Once you listen with your soul & not your ears, then you will feel and hear the excellence that screams from Chris's CD Carry On.

I find it amazing how reviewers are so pigeon holed in their assessments. This is a very heartfelt and mature record from an artist who has run gone through a lot of changes personally and professionally. His voice is still great, without the screaming of his youth. I think this is much more of Chris' record than anything since Temple. I love it. Steve Lillywhite did a great job by not over producing this record. I think there is more to look forward to from Chris.

I think you have given what I would call a more-than-fair review of this awful CD. It is without question the worst music I have purchased in many, many years. I loved Soundgarden and Euphoria Morning was very good but this Carry On record is a piece of crap that I wish I could return for my money back. Apparently Cornell doesn't mind screwing his longtime fans by producing garbage like this but after seeing how many idiots are raving about this shit, maybe Cornell is simply cashing in on the endless supply of musically-ignorant boneheads who have no taste.

WOw this review is way off!!! I'm sorry but I guess that's why this guy is a critique and not an actual artist...anyone can be a critique and it's just a matter of opinion, nothing special. Sorry honey you were born with no talent. But anyway with that said...I'm tired of people saying oh that Billie Jean is finally given the right music....YES what CORNELL did was AMAZING with the song, given that he gave the lyrics a push and the star of the song....brilliant.
BUT please people don't trash MJ just cause you don't like him....what he did with BILLIE JEAN is GENIUS...A pop song infused with dark lyrical content....totally out of the norm and way beyond it's years...who would of thought to marry pop and dark lyrics? That is the Genius of it...SO the song works in both occasions...it just shows how great a song it really is...I want to see him do that to a Britney song...I DON'T THINK SO! And that comment about oh MJ would be the last person he would do a song on...WTF??? As if MJ was some horrible person to cover....I can believe if you said that about Again,Britney or black eyed peas, But not Michael....like it or not he was an innovator and well beyond his years. I'm tired of narrow minded people who can't see passed their own judgment and hatred.
