After playing through the twelve tracks with lyrics and song, all twelve are repeated as originally written - without words. The difference is immediately apparent when the CD is listened to through its’ entirety. The manic fun of the first half is replaced by a statelier attitude; by then my children had danced themselves out. However, this is a vitally important inclusion so that listeners can experience the works as originally intended.
The comprehensive liner notes include all of the lyrics, hand drawn illustrations, and trivia questions that accompany each song. While the answers to the twenty-four questions are given at the back of the booklet, no answers are provided for the five longer activity questions.
As the mother of three, I find it difficult to imagine that I’ve missed out on the work of Beethoven’s Wig until now. Despite their many awards and Grammy nominations I’ve somehow let them slip under my radar, but no longer! While the premise is unconventional, I was surprised to find Dance Along Symphonies the most delightful CD I’ve heard for children this year. This is a polished, professional addition to children’s music that is both educational and entertaining. Any parent longing to ignite an interest in classical music and seeks a carefree, humorous introduction should give Beethoven's Wig a try. Your little ones will thank you.
