Music Playlist: Songs That Sample Herbie Hancock

Part of: Music Playlist

Hip-Hop acts that utilize jazz elements are currently at the top of my list. They tend to have a smoldering coolness that rises above the slick commercialized rap so prevalent today. This playlist looks at 22 tracks that sample the music of the legendary Herbert Jeffrey Hancock. Most of it is Hip-Hop, but I have thrown in some dance songs for the sake of diversity. As part of the Miles Davis Quintet Hancock helped redefine the role of a rhythm section, and was later one of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthesizers and Acid Jazz.

Listen to this playlist with Rhapsody or Yahoo Music Engine.
