Cabaret is a French word for the taprooms, or cafes, where this form of entertainment was born. The first cabaret was opened circa 1881 in Montmartre, Paris. This playlist explores modern music with a decidedly "cabaret" sound. Accordions, violins, and artsy weirdness can be found in this music, and it will give you an overwhelming urge to wear feathers, drink absinthe and dance on a table without reserve.

The problem with this playlist is that it really doesn't encompass the "rock" half of the title. It seems like most of these artists are just apeing old sounds and styles with instrumentation that's pretty close to said styles. Not to say that I don't like the original cabaret sound, but I really want someone to do something new with it.
