Music News: New Albums from The Horrors, Cyndi Lauper, Filter, and More

The Crüe are back! Mötley Crüe released their last album, Generation Swine, almost 11 years ago. That album met with poor reception as it fled their familiar rock sound while they tried to pander to a techno-hungry crowd. But Nikki Sixx says the band is back on the hard rock track with the new album, Saints of Los Angeles, and ready to deliver what fans want. Keep an eye out for it this summer.

'80s icon Cyni Lauper will release her first major recording in 12, Bring Ya To The Brink. The dance album, due out May 27th, is filled with bonus material and will feature at least one song produced by Basement Jaxx.

Coldplay will release their fourth studio album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, in mid-June. It’s produced by music god Brian Eno, and I have the tracklist here:

The Horrors will release their second studio album, the follow-up to the hit Strange House, due out this fall. While little is known about the effort at the moment, what is causing a buzz is the announcement of Chris Cunningham as producer. Cunningham is known for his video direction (most notably for Bjork), but has never produced a record.

Tom Petty has set aside his Heartbreakers to reunite with his former band, Mudcrutch, over three decades after they disbanded. All members of the band are getting their turn at the mic this time, not just Petty. And while the band has played some of the songs previously, most is new material. When asked about the self-titled album, Petty reported that it has a country-rock feel. Look for it later this month.

Alternative heavy-hitters Filter are back with their fourth album, Anthems for the Damned. The effort features help from other alternative heavyweights, such as former members of Limp Bizkit and Marilyn Manson. Frontman Richard Patrick told MTV news that he isn’t straying from the classic Filter sound.
