Music News: DJ Thomas Blondet Has Some New Remixes and a New Gig

Part of: NewsFlash

Thomas Blondet is a well-known DJ in the electronic dance community. He started his career in DC in the mid '90s and was at ease with a variety of styles, from drum 'n' bass to house music. He continued his DJ gigs as well as other ventures since then. Along with the co-owner of Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington, D.C., Blondet also runs Rhythm and Culture on ESL Music (a premier downtempo label).

Blondet is also known as a top-notch downtempo talent. He is not afraid to push the boundaries of the genre and go past its limits. To that end, he has recently put up some excellent remixes up on his website and SoundCloud page. Blondet (and Second Sky) did a superb job on the AM and Shawn Lee quirky indie pop song, “Somebody Like You”. While the original sits squarely in the indie world (with a strong dash of '70s soft rock), Blondet adds some extra percussion and background dynamics on the remix that give the song a deeper and chiller groove.

Another remix is of the Cornershop song “Dedicated”—you might remember that group from their “Brimful of Asha” hit in the mid-'90s. He softened the beats and synth riffs of the original and again, rounded out the remix with percussion, giving it a more cohesive flow and rhythmic dynamic.

As a live performer, Blondet was a regular spinner at the Sunday Rhythm and Culture nights at the Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington, DC. Just recently, Blondet began once-a-month Saturday night gigs there.
