The journey into music videos (and other bits) continues its mission to deliver you something worthy of your time, perhaps introducing you to something new along the way.
This week I continue compiling videos and various musical related tidbits for your viewing pleasure. Some will be brand spanking new, while others will just be things I like. I am not great with timeliness, but I hope you've been enjoying these video collections.
Evergrey - "Broken Wings"
The video for the first single from Evergrey's new album, Torn, is here. The track is called "Broken Wings" and it is a pretty darn good tune. I am very new to the band, but I like what I have heard so far. The song is heavy, catchy, and has a progressive edge to it, which I assume is a calling card for the band. The video has a nice, haunting atmosphere to it. Take a look:
Kingdom of Sorrow - "Lead the Ghosts Astray"
This is a good tune from a good band. Jamey Jasta and Kirk Windsteing teamed up to form this, what I call, sludge-core band. Heavy with some brutal riffs blended with a down south sludgy brutality. Unfortunately, I missed them when they came through my town a few weeks back, scheduling and all. Hopefully I will get another chance. Performance based video is reminiscent of something you would see from Jasta's Hatebreed, and it works just fine.
Alice Cooper - "Vengeance is Mine (live)"
On September 29, 2008 Alice Cooper was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He performed "Vengeance is Mine" and it was vintage Alice. There is no denying that his latest album, Along Came a Spider, is a good album. It also doesn't hurt that "Vengeance is Mine" is a downright grooving song.
Joetown - "Crash"
"Crash" is the first single from Joetown's Pills and Ammo album, which they hope will be the start of something big (don't they all?). The tune is pretty catchy and solidly within the realm of hard rock. The video was inspired by the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I wish they took that inspiration in a different direction. Sure, the style is neat for about a minute, but the opening credits look gets tiresome and ends up detracting from the song, in my opinion.
