The journey into music videos (and other bits) continues its mission to deliver you something worthy of your time, perhaps introducing you to something new along the way.
This week I continue compiling videos and various musical related tidbits for your viewing pleasure. Some will be brand spanking new, while others will just be things I like. I am not great with timeliness, but I hope you've been enjoying these video collections.
Before the Dawn - "Dying Sun"
Finnish metal act Before the Dawn has released the lead video for "Dying Sun," fresh from their latest release Soundscape of Silence. It is not a bad song. It's melodic, heavy, and brutal. They feature two vocalists, handling clean and dirty styles. The video has a medieval theme featuring a blacksmith at work.
John 5 - Behind the Player
John 5 is a solid guitar player who rose to prominence, at least in my eyes, when he played with Marilyn Manson. His notoriety rose even higher now with Rob Zombie. He has influences and skills that span a multitude of styles. He puts those on display in this Behind the Player DVD that takes a look at his development, gear, and includes lessons on playing a few songs. I tried my hand at guitar, but it did not work out too well. Here is a trailer for the release:
Textures - "Awake"
Never heard of this Dutch act before, but after seeing this video and hearing the song, I am definitely intrigued by what they bring to the table. The band's name is different, and truly fits in with the sound they offer, a plate filled with a variety of finely crafted textures. It is a satisfying concoction that shows the band displaying a mind with a vision both visual and aural.
Megadeth - "Tornado of Souls" and "Peace Sells"
November 2nd saw HDNet run a Megadeth concert entitled "Blood In The Water: Live in San Diego." A couple of clips from that show have made their way online, and they sound pretty good! There is no denying that Mustaine and whoever he has around him rock. This lineup features ex-Nevermore and Jag Panzer axe-man Chris Broderick, who replaced Glen Drover (who is doing a few shows with Testament) at the end of 2007. They are also prepping a new album, once again working with producer Andy Sneap. Check out these clips:
