Miley Cyrus comes out to play in broad, bold 3-D with the release of the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds 3-D Concert Movie.
There’s no question that the live concert sold out wherever it went, pulling in energized pre-teens and tolerant parents from across the United States. The next best thing to being there is to catch it on this concert DVD, of course.
The wild phenomenon of Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana is not without its merits, as the girl positively can put on a first-rate show and comes across as very amiable and very engaging.
The concert DVD is split into two discs, with one disc dedicated to the regular 2-D version of the concert film and the other dedicated to the amped-up 3-D version. The set comes with four pairs of 3-D glasses, which is good news and shows that Disney knows their audience well. Some other 3-D sets I’ve purchased have come with two pairs or, in the case of a Third Rock from the Sun DVD, just one paltry pair.
The concert itself isn’t too long, featuring just 16 songs (with a couple of bonus songs on the first disc’s special features) with a runtime of just over 80 minutes. It’s the ideal length for kids who can’t quite sit still long enough for a marathon show.
Hannah Montana handles the first half of the concert, rolling through favourites like “Rock Star” and “Nobody’s Perfect” with charming energy. She’s joined by the Jonas Brothers for “We Got the Party,” heading off for a costume change after the track as the boys play “When You Look Me in the Eyes” and “Year 3000” to an ear-piercing crowd before making way for Miss Miley.
Miley Cyrus takes the second half of the show. Her bouncy set is visually enchanting and her performances of songs like “See You Again” and “I Got Nerve” highlight a very enjoyable performance. Her solo performance of “I Miss You” with cascading photos of her with her granddad on the screens was unexpectedly moving.
