Music CD/DVD Review: Beyoncé - I Am...Yours: An Intimate Performance At Wynn Las Vegas

I love concerts and I love Beyoncé. Sadly enough I have never seen her in concert. As I watched and listened to I Am…Yours: An Intimate Performance At Wynn Las Vegas I forgot about the fact that I wasn’t in the front row dancing with Beyoncé. Instead I was sitting on my couch in my pajamas. I have heard every single song she performs in this concert, but I have never heard them sound as original or powerful as I did watching her entertain.

The Deluxe Edition includes two hit-packed CDs and a DVD. The live CDs and DVD both feature the same performance of over 30 songs from her three solo albums, some from the Destiny’s Child catalogue, and a couple of surprises. The exclusive concert features an intimate first act, intermission, and a second act full of storytelling.

Beyoncé started out the concert performing a song from her latest album, I Am…Sasha Fierce. She walked through the crowd hugging fans and singing “Hello” to them. The audience was saying hello to Sasha Fierce, her alter-ego  that represents the performing side of her. The lights dimmed, creating an intimate environment as she sang one of her latest singles, "Halo."

She gave a special thank you to her all-female band and said, “Sometimes in relationships people get real comfortable and forget they can be replaced in a minute.” The audience went crazy as she performed the break-up anthem “Irreplaceable." They jumped to their feet and chanted to the cheaters in their life to get “to the left, to the left.”

Beyoncé’s latest single “Sweet Dreams” is an up-tempo song you can dance to. Because she loves the lyrics, she slowed the song down and blended it into a romantic medley that included “Sweet Dreams,” “Dangerously in Love," and “Sweet Love." When she belts out the lyrics, “As long as you’re here I’ll be floating on air / Tattoo your name across my heart, so it will remain / Not even death can make us part,” it was like I was hearing the song for the first time.

“If I Were a Boy” was the performance I was anticipating the most. Beyoncé exceeded my expectations, mixing the lyrics with the songs “You Oughta Know,” originally performed by Alanis Morissette, and “California Love."

I was at one of her Encore performances in Las Vegas and she was absolutely incredible. She makes you feel the songs, they are not just words. I was lucky to go to one of Tina Turner's concerts in 1996 and Beyonce is/has become like her in the way she mesmerizes and interacts with the fans. You can't take your eyes off her. I am glad to have the DVD to pop in and bring back memories of this performance. SHE IS THE BEST AT THIS TIME.

    Love you Bey....
