Magnum Opeth

Title: Deliverance
Group: Opeth
Label: Music for Nations

Together with the likes of Therion, Apocalyptica and a very few others, they have taken the genre to new levels of musicality. This CD only contains 6 tracks, but within many of these tracks is such a degree of variety that more breaks are not needed. Deliverance is the first of a two-CD set, featuring the harder darker edge of Opeth, while the forthcoming Damnation will contain their mellower Floyd-esque material. Opeth is certainly not for everyone, but if you like your metal with a degree of sophistication then this lot are for you. Venom it ain't, but it does retain some of its death metal under-pinnings. This is simply stunning stuff, highly recommended.

I searched opeth in the search bar, and only got this one article, it's just fucking sad that hundreds of people are so busy writing about and commenting on junk like disturbed and insane clown posse on here, and don't even know what real metal is.

Yeah, I didn't find the new opeth all that amazing, sounded much like deliverance, dunno, i listened to some morningrise the other day and began to miss that gothic spookyness that opeth used to have, I more or less think they've tried everything in the "70's prog rock crossed with extreme death metal" spectrum, on the next one I think they'd better go a bit sideways, and loosen up their song structure a little, the new stuff is getting a little formulaic, listen to anything on morningrise, from start to finish, you have no idea where the song is going, ghost reveries was almost too perfect an album, everything was rigidly defined, you have a beginning middle and an end, it just didn't hold my interest like the others. Having said that, any of the dumbasses that post on the disturbed articles should know that they should feel honoured to get the chance to lick mikaels sweaty ballsack, GR is still a better album than anything they've ever heard.

Opeth "not that amazing" means an album that most metal bands would try to make all their careers and never get even close to. I am going to see them on 30 Nov. It wiil be one of the rarest of gigs for me...one that I am paying to get into.
