Vicious Cycle is one of those albums that I can listen to from start to finish and never skip a single track. This is the first album the band has put together since the passing of Leon Wilkeson in July 2001. The album starts out with the track "That's How I Like It" a song about doing things the old fashioned way, no online connection, no fancy cars, just living the simple life and loving it that way.
The song that I have to plug the most is the one on radio stations across the country, "Red White and Blue." This is one of those that make you proud to be an American and stand for what you believe in. Something that had me in shock was the final track featuring Kid Rock, "Gimme Back My Bullets" is the up to date version where Kid Rock lends his vocals and does a heck of a job IMO. If you are a true Skynyrd fan and love the new stuff as well as the classic, then you must give this album a listen. I've listened to this for a week now and love how the album was assembled. The band also pays tribute to Leon with a tune called "Mad Hatter" talking about being the cat in the hat, due to all the tragedies he survived, with his nine lives, then sadly running out. Some other songs worth a listen to are "Crawl," "Pick 'Em Up," and "All Funked Up" ... but again, I have to recommend the entire CD because it rocks.
The last time I heard a great Skynyrd album was back in 1997 when Twenty was released, I never purchased the live album that was released not long after, but heard it was ok. I have a rating scale that I go by on my reviews, 5 Stars (1 bad and 5 the best), I give Vicious Cycle a 5/5. I didn't come across any downsides of the album, so I can't comment on any. I've been told that Lynyrd Skynyrd has lost the edge they once had, but I totally disagree.
