Light Of Day: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen

Someday I'll learn to walk straight to the music store checkout without being sucked in by any display/promo material. Someday I will grow up.

Not today though...

This afternoon I was on my way to pay for the handful of Neil Young and Warren Zevon (I didn't have Learning To Flinch) cds' when I spotted a cardboard display for Light Of Day: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen. What this is is a tribute record, the proceeds of which go to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation and the Kristen Ann Carr Sarcoma Fund.

I haven't been able to give this thing a full listen yet but I've gotta say that Elvis Costello's version of "Brilliant Disguise", Billy Bragg's "Mansion On The Hill" and Graham Parker's "Pink Cadillac" have already made me glad I picked the cd up. The tunes seem to come from all era's of Bruce's career: early stuff up through the Lucky Town years.

For more information you can check out the Light Of Day Website.

Thanks, I enjoy most of these tribute/cover band stuff. Bat Head's Soup is a good one for Ozzy fans.

The first thing I thogth was that Bruce was dead. But then, given the proliferation of "tribute" albums (one of the first I got was "The Bridge") for benefits, I would really like to see the track listing.

But Elvis Costello and Billy Bragg sounds good enough for me.

It's really wierd how lazy labels are about releasing track listings for albums. Y'know cause people might actually be goaded to buy them?

For example, there's a soundtrack album for Buffy the Vampire Slayer which is supposed to be released Sept. 30, but Virgin still haven't released the track listing. Because it's not like there's a fan base or anything.

You know how those Springsteen fans are, just wait for the album to come up to their front door.

it is funny eric, how fellow record collectors 'know' how the other thinks.

you are right, unless i'm destitute (and maybe not even then) i'll never be able to make it to that danged counter without seeing something else....

which is why I avoid record stores unless I know I have the time and the resources to use that time - life can be hard...

I loved this record from the first time, I found it on a record shop in Seville (Spain) while I was away from home and feeling weird. I just bought it and started to listen to it on my cd player. I felt so happy and warm. The fact that it is dedicated to help people who are sick of cancer touched me deeply. Thank you Bruce Springsteen and all the people who recorded this album, that makes my life meaningful, thank you.
