Kris Allen: Country’s Not For Me

After Kris Allen performed with country superstar Keith Urban on Wednesday’s finale, country fans were wondering: could this new American Idol follow the path of Carrie Underwood and become a country music legend? After all, he proved he could sing country fairly well. And let’s face it, which contestant were most country music fans supporting?

First of all, Kris Allen totally rocked country night on American Idol. He sang Garth Brooks’ “To Make You Feel My Love.” I can’t stand the way Garth does it and Kris took a song that I couldn’t stand and made it sound good. The only person close was Danny Gokey, who sang “What Hurts The Most” by Rascal Flatts. Adam Lambert completely destroyed “Ring of Fire.” Johnny Cash would be rolling around in his grave. It was scary.

Kris Allen’s performance with Keith Urban was amazing. I’ve heard “Kiss A Girl” a billion times on the radio, but I’ve never felt the desire to buy it. Now, not only am I going to buy the performance (once I can find it on iTunes), but I’m sure I can make into my Top 25 right next to Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, and Kris’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” easily. The song is just amazing. Kris Allen’s voice was born for country music.

Plus, American Idols who turn country are very successful. Well, maybe not Taylor Hicks, but he’s very happy on Broadway. I see ads for it all the time. Carrie Underwood (“Last Name”) is the top earning American Idol alumni. She made $14 million last year. She sold 9.6 million albums and 10.7 million digital downloads last year. Kellie Pickler, another Idol alum is a major country star, touring with Taylor Swift.

But Kris Allen decides to break all the country fans hearts’

He says, "I don't feel like I would go that country way. That's not my type of music and that's not the feeling that I want on my album, but we did have a great time together. He's a great guy and I respect him so much as an artist and musician."

It’s such a shame. He is a country boy and even is from the south. Hopefully, some of his songs on his album will sound country.

Keith was hot Kris was not. He looked like a little midget next to Keith. In case you guys don't get it Kris has no talent. Idol pretended he did to make it look like a contest. He will be back in Arkansas with his pals that rigged 38 million vote for the win by next year.

Megan, let go of the bitterness. You lost - live with it ... and stop telling people that highly-unlikely statistic to make your statements more credible.

Actually, the statistic was refuted by the same news outlet that presented it in the first place. Megan may not have seen the correction

He sang Garth Brooks’ “To Make You Feel My Love.”

Actually he sang Bob Dylan's “To Make You Feel My Love.”

And I disagree with your prediction of Johnny's reaction. I don't think it would have been his cup of tea, but I think Johnny would have been very supportive of an artist taking a chance.

Hi there! I’m a mother and a devout Christian, too! As viewer, I recognize that American Idol is a singing talent contest open to all, regardless of personal orientations or religion. It is not supposed to be a popularity contest for a certain class of persons. Among all of Season 8’s contenders, Adam Lambert is the amazing artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. America’s vote for Kris, or its vote against Adam, seems to be a contemptuous hate vote against that portion of America that Adam stands for. ADAM LAMBERT DESERVED TO WIN. Even Kris Allen himself knows this in his Christian heart, so much so that as soon as he was unexpectedly handed the undeserved crown, he openly admitted in public that “Adam deserves this…” " righteously adhering to glaring truth and instinctively repudiating ridiculous vote results that were surely no act of God. Adam Lambert is the true winner!

Stop talking about the religion's effect on American Idol! It might have affected some votes, but not the major factor. It's as simple as that Kris's music appeals to a broader audience while Adam's doesn't although he is talented.

Kris sang amazingly beautiful. Kris won because more of the people could see it. Adam has a wonderful voice and may go far with it. Kris is who the people wanted and he is an AMERICAN IDOL, that I would want my daughter and sons to look too as a American Singing Idol.

Thanks A. Lambe for insisting that Adam deserved the win. As a Christian, you should be thankful that we don't get what we deserve - something about the wages of sin. Now go and help some poor widow instead of caring about who won on an infomercial that's trying to sell you mp3s and phones.

Adam had passionate though limited support. He was supported mainly by the press and the judges. That made it SEEM like the nation was agog over him.

The fact is, every viewer I know preferred Kris.

The Press, yet again, fails to get the pulse of the nation.
