Katie Melua

I understand where she was trying to go I just choose not to follow her there. This bluesy tale would have been impressive had there not been a younger American version by the name of Joss Stone.

Even so Gretchen Lieberman has explored this territory a tad bit more conventionally. What I hear in Katie's music is Ella and Billy but I can not identify exactly who Katie is and more importantly her message. Is it pain? Is it misdirection? Is it love lost? Been there, done that and not looking for the sequel. She has the formula down packed. She's young, soulful and singing the blues. The lyrics are sad, wandering and they call to the longing masses but so do all blues, hence the name.

The potential is there, that's without question but Katie's sound is such a mesh with bluesy artists, I can always listen to the original instead of her.

Dew, Joss Stone is NOT American. She is
from the UK. I wish we could claim her
    as our own... She's fantastic.

    Yeah she's a white fifteen-year-old from Devon. I know, bizarre, isn't it?

Really it is. Especiallly looking at how deep the rabbit hole goes. She had the best blues singers around her (i.e. Betty Wright)

Since the site has been hijacked towards
speaking about Joss Stone: Dew, I agree
totally about Betty Wright. I'd love to
hear her & Joss duet on "Clean Up Woman"
ohhhgaaaaaaaaawd that would be the bomb.

    PS:Regarding Katie M. I'd rather listen
to Nina or Aretha or Sade. I don't find
her(Katie)impressive in the same way I
do Joss Stone. It's just personal taste.
They are both very talented women to be
    sure.

What makes you think that Joss Stone is American? Check again - she's British! I like both singers - give Katie a chance.

Let's understand, Joss could be Swedish and I would still like her better than Katie. It's nothing personal because I do not know her personally. So all I have is her music which does nothing for but make me want to listen to Nina, Joss or Gretchen.
