In spite of past comments in BlogCritics, I've only landed into this musical pastiche days short of a year after its original release and I can hear a clear Oasis influence. Definitely the sounds of the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Black Crowes and Aerosmith can be found here too. Under normal circumstances, I would discard an album that can't make up its own mind, but I admit that the catchy "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" hooked me a while back, so I gave the album a shot.
What I've found in "Get Born" is that most of the upbeat tracks I dig: as a matter of fact, I enjoy them a lot, perhaps because I was first deep into classic rock before listening to other types of music. However, the ballads I could totally live without: a couple of them want to sound like the Rolling Stones and don't go beyond coming across as a ripoff of Poison. The closing track, "Timothy", though on the lighter side of the spectrum, I enjoyed as well.
So the balance seems like a fair 3.5 stars, leaning toward 4 stars. I will most definitely keep my eyes open for any coming works by these Melbourne-based rockers!

thanks Manny, nice to see you back - I hear them as disinctly updating the bands you named by going more jagged, kind of along the lines of White Stripes

this record reminded me of when rock bands were not afraid to show a littler diversity of sound on a single release.
in particular, it reminded me of the Rolling Stones' "Some Girls". not that it all sounds like the Stones but that it has a lot of different stuff going on.
