iTunes Chart Watch: Phish, DMB, Fine Frenzy Join Top 10 Albums

Part of: iTunes Chart Watch

What's better than one Police Academy joke?  How about two?  The top two albums on this week's albums chart are both sequels.  Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 moves into the top spot this week, trailed by Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Pt. 2.  That title eludes me.  I can't imagine what about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 1 would demand a sequel.  I suppose some of you might say actually listening to both parts would answer that question but I'm not prepared to accept that logic.

Taking a closer peak at the albums chart, we have the new A Fine Frenzy album.  I'm glad to see that one doing well.  Donald Gibson interviewed Alison Sudol, the brains behind AFF.  I got turned on to AFF with the debut, One Cell In The Sea.  Sudol is a promising singer/songwriter with an incredible voice.  Dave Matthews Band's Big Whiskey returns to the Top 10 of the albums chart.  I'd be curious how much of that has to do with ABC and ESPN using songs from that record as bumper music for their college football coverage this past week.  They got an awful lot of face time.  It can't have hurt.

The singles chart is as stale as my jokes about it.  All 10 of the songs on this chart have been on the chart before.  All 10 of these songs have been mocked, some of them more than once.  If you, the readers and listeners, want me to get some new material you're going to have to listen to something new.  Even I have my limitations.  Here are the singles and albums charts:
