iTunes Chart Watch: Black Crowes, Jay-Z, Whitney Houston Among Top 10 Albums

Part of: iTunes Chart Watch

I guess we'll start this off with the obvious: The Beatles won't be putting any songs or albums on the iTunes chart any time soon despite the long overdue release of their remastered catalog. Sources close to and within the band have said they're ready to see the music available digitally, but that The Beatles' label EMI is holding things up.

As for what is on the singles list, well, there just hasn't been much movement. Most of the same songs from the past several weeks are on the list and most of them are still in the same spot.

iTunes' top 10 selling singles of the week ending Sept. 7, 2009:

1. "Party In the U.S.A." - Miley Cyrus
2. "I Gotta Feeling" - Black Eyed Peas
3. "Down" - Jay Sean
4. "Run This Town (feat. Rihanna & Kanye West)" - Jay-Z
5. "Whatcha Say" - Jason DeRulo
6. "Use Somebody" - Kings of Leon
7. "Hotel Room Service" - Pitbull
8. "Good Girls Go Bad (feat. Leighton Meester)" - Cobra Starship
9. "She Wolf" - Shakira
10. "Fallin' for You" - Colbie Caillat

Reviews have been mixed for Whitney Houston's comeback CD I Look To You but it looks like the pop superstar has herself a commercial success with a #1 debut on Billboard's charts as well as with iTunes. I'm not sure what the staying power will be like with the mixed critical reaction, but she's off to a good start.

I'm very pleased to see Black Crowes' excellent “double album” in the Top 10. For those of you not savvy, Black Crowes have offered up a buy one, get one free deal with their new album. I even previewed a track from it in my daily Verse Chorus Verse column.

Please get your facts right. Whitney Houston's album has been mostly positively reviewed; feel free to browse the internet and find out yourself. Sure it's mixed: about 70% positive.

It's easy to get your facts right when you make them up. 70% positive? Where are you getting that. I was honest and accurate in what I said. The reason I know this? I read some reviews on the internet.

He's probably basing it on the whopping 9 reviews ranked at Metacritic, which put the Houston album at 70%.

In a poll just conducted in my office 100% of the people haven't cared to give it a listen yet

In an informal poll with a margin of error of 1-100%, I've found similar findings.
