Hugo will release two other Ereyn Chronicles albums to complete his interpretations of Borderie's stories. In between the Ereyn Chronicles trilogy, Hugo has a number of solo projects planned. “The next album will be more keyboard based” Hugo said. “Keyboards allow me to experiment more with tone and present a range of choices for composing. I don’t want to be fixed into one style of music. There is a lot of music which has an emotional effect on me, and I want to explore many different facets of my persona through music. It is exciting to find aspects of myself in many forms of art. The music on Ereyn Chronicles is a part of me, but I do not want it to define me.”
It’s hard to say how Hugo will be defined in the future. His influences include Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon and Daniel Gildenlow from Pain of Salvation.
“Those guys are 2 geniuses of music and their last albums are for me two of the best albums ever. At the vocals, I'll say Bruce Dickinson. This guy is so amazing and a legend that he's, for me, really an idol. I also love Russell Allen's voice. For the guitar, I'll say Kiko Loureiro. The last Angra album is really great and Kiko's solos are just amazing.”
There’s no doubt though that his work on the Ereyn Chronicles adds to the legacy of heavy metal music and to fantasy-oriented stories by Borderie and others.
“I have the music label Magna Carta to thank for that” Hugo said. “When I first approached them, I didn’t think they would like this music. It was so different then the other things they released. But they were willing to a take a chance on me and on this album. It has been very rewarding working with them and I look forward to collaborating with them in the future.”
