Interview: Back to Brazil With Jazz Singer Luciana Souza - Page 3

Luciana Souza gets excited when asked what concert-goers can expect from the shows on her upcoming tour, “This is really a Brazilian flavored-project. The Los Angeles Guitar Quintet are great musicians. It is a beautiful program, really crazy stuff. Just gorgeous music.” She’s also looking forward to returning to New England this month, a big change from her new home in California. “When I arrived in Boston the first time, I didn’t even have a coat! But I love the intellectual aspect of the winter. You spend more time indoors and read. It’s a quieter, slow time that I love.”

She ends our conversation with an anecdote, un conto, about her first time skiing in Vermont. “It was the coldest weekend I had ever experienced, minus ten degrees. My ski instructor was a retired marine who kept me out there for six hours straight, falling on the bunny hill. I learned to ski that weekend. I could barely move, but I had the best time. It’s great to be going back”
