In Case You Missed Them Part 1 - 3 Doors Down: The Better Life

Their first major release, this album is characterised by deep guitar riffs, subtle drum beats and vocals that sound truly "from the heart". Most of the songs actually have quite dark themes, but they manage to sound hopeful, or at least have a "fighting spirit" about them. They don't depress, although i find they can induce depressing thoughts. Such themes include: being a loser (in fact several songs work along this line), drug addiction, and all-consuming love.

I class 3 doors down as "rock" music but it's close to folk rock. In a good way. In that, this isn't the kind of music you can dance to, it's the kind of music you can really listen to, indeed listening to it is the only way to really do it justice.

The Mississippi-based quartet 3 Doors Down has only one thing that sets them apart from other hard rock bands: lead vocalist Brad Arnold is also the drummer. The group shops the sounds of Pearl Jam and ...

I think the description you're looking for is "pop."

Yeah, and their follow-up CD (Away From The Sun) really gets mellow. Perhaps too mellow. Heavy Creed-like influence. I'm not sure that's a good thing ...

they are only "pop" as in "popular in america"
they are not pop as in Top Of The Pops, and they aren't very well known here in england.
You may be right though, TDavid, about Away From The Sun (which is why i didn't buy it after i heard it)

I would put them more in the post-grunge area of somewhat mellow introspective alt-rock.

Well it's 2004 now since you guys above let loose your unflattering criticism.I listen to 60s band Love, the Byrds and also old REM, so I come from a long experience of good taste and I would recommend this band to anyone. They've got strong songs, a sincere and subtle singer and chops, to boot. Well I was born in Mississippi, so that might influence my judgement as they I think are from a small town outside Biloxi.
