Iggy Pop has been talking about the experience of returning to the studio
with the Stooges to record the title track for his new album 'Skull Ring'. Thirty years after their peak, and following a little bitching in the press, Pop admitted "There were some nerves when we met". But he went on: "Everyone was serious and focused and just wanted everything to go well. All I wanted was a bloody good track for my record, but as soon as we got in there and played, the music had life and vigor, and I realized, 'My God, these guys have grown. They're better now than they were.' "
Pop has also admitted to being influenced by The White Stripes on one of the
tracks on the new album. He says: "I wrote 'Loser' after I heard White Blood
Cells, because I thought, 'My God, they're a little bit Stooges, a little bit Pretenders. I could write that'. I decided if they're gonna rewrite me, I'll rewrite them."
