Fresh on the heels of Carl’s Jr.’s latest TV ad campaign featuring a soaped-up, hamburger-loving Paris Hilton (ad here), HUM Recordings today announced plans to release a full-length version of the song accompanying the ad, Cole Porter’s classic “I Love Paris” as sung by indie rocker Eleni Mandell.
The song is available today, June 6, exclusively on iTunes.
The new version of the song, sung by Mandell and arranged by HUM’s Rob Lopez, has generated enough buzz among consumers to prompt HUM Recordings to make the commercial-to-recording move.
Eleni Mandell — whom LA Weekly voted Best Singer/Songwriter in 2003 — has released five indie albums including her latest, Afternoon, and is presently working on her sixth. Mandell took time off from working on her next album to record the vocals for the Carl’s Jr. spot.
Mandell enthuses, “I’m very excited that they liked what I did. The fact that people are responding to the music is a wonderful surprise. This is very different from the music I make on my own, but it was a fun challenge.
“It's apropos that I'm singing a Cole Porter song," Mandell adds. "I've been very influenced by jazz standards and getting to sing one today and having it become a single on rock radio is really fantastic. But it’s even more exciting that the song broke on television – a real alternative to radio these days.”
The “I Love Paris” single is just the second commerically available release by HUM Recordings, whose primary business has been providing music for commericals.
