"I Don't Like Mondays" crime anniversary

A dumb high school girl name of Brenda Spencer opened fire at a high school in San Diego 25 years ago today, January 29, 1979. She killed two people, and wounded eight others.

That's a damned shame, but her explanation did inspire one of the greatest pop songs of the rock era, "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats. [The original album The Fine Art of Surfacing rates FAR better than any version of a hits album- if you can find it.]

It puts me in mind of Orson Welles' famous Third Man speech, "In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."
