However, it was disappointing to see the upper left section of the Amphitheater sparsely filled, though the crowd's energy and enthusiasm more than made up for the small lack of people. By the time the encores hit, the security crew finally lost their battle and let everyone down for the closing moments. That only gave everyone involved a second wind for another 10-15 minutes. Their total stage time was around an hour and half, and barring those few minutes between encores, they never stopped for a break.
It's odd to see a band on stage having just as much fun as the audience. They were everywhere, especially Darius who made sure he acknowledged everyone in the front rows multiple times. It added another layer to an already great show. Those fans who have stuck with them, even after the disappointing Fairweather Johnson, still have plenty to be happy about. Shows like this can only enforce what they already knew: This band hasn't lost any of their talent.

Can't claim to be a big fan, but I would see them live given the chance. My shows tend more towards the metal end of the spectrum. SOunds like you had a good time.
I too, am disappointed when I see a band putting on a great show but with a less than full crowd. I went to a show once where the the band members of the 3 bands playing outnumbered the crowd!
On another note, Matt, I missed your review of the Sci Fi film Bloodsuckers this week? Did you catch it? I put a review up on Monday.

Definitely a better band live. Like I said to my buddy at the show, they release albums sort of like an excuse to get out there. That's not knocking their albums (all which are sitting right next to me), that's just where you can appreciate them that much more. Same goes for the Counting Crows who I couldn't stand and was forced to go by an ex and ended up with a new appreciation.
And no, no Bloodsuckers. I got caught up in Oddworld on the Xbox and didn't realize how much time passed. When I looked up, it was already 9:45 so I just let it go. I'm not a big vampire person anyway. Besides, I gotta get through Tidal Wave this week. I need all I can get. =;)

That's funny, too funny.
Hootie and the Blowfish :)
I wonder why they couldn't sell out that theater! It boggles the mind.
That is all.
