My 5 year old daughter worships Hilary! We have her bedspread, makeup, clothes, Lizzie underwear, music, movies, posters, jewelery, etc! We just went, to her concert where we live in North Carolina and it was awesome! She is such a great role model for the kids! I really love her just as much as my daughter! I have learned all of her songs too! Every song she has is wonderful! I also love that she believes in God which is the most important thing of all! I would give anything if we could meet Hilary in person! That would be that happiest day of my daughter's life! Seeing her in concert was pretty close enough but I would love to sit down and talk with her! Keep up the great work Hilary! You are a beautiful person! We hope that you come back to NC to sing again!

    We love you!

New hater version of Hilary duff’s new song “wake up”

    People are talking
    Talking about you
    We know your name
    And we really hate you
    But we just know
    That we
    Hate you

    Give me a Lindsay,
    Give me a Raven,
Give me somebody, who’s not Hilary
Cuz, we need to go we need to get away from her

She puts her makeup on a Saturday night,
Thinks it looks good, but it doesn’t look right
    She always makes mistakes,
    She makes them every day,
It’s never any easy, cuz she’s so lame

Makeup! Makeup! On a Saturday night
Thinks it looks good, but it doesn’t look right
    London, Paris maybe Tokyo
Don’t wanta see her face any where I go tonight
    Tonight
    Yeah tonight

    People are talking,
    To get rid of her,
But she won’t leave and now we really hate her
Cuz she needs to go she needs to get away tonight

She puts her make up on a Saturday night,
Thinks it looks good, but it doesn’t look right
    She always makes mistakes,
    She makes them every day,
It’s never any easy, cuz she’s so lame

Makeup! Makeup! On a Saturday night
Thinks it looks good, but it doesn’t look right
    London, Paris maybe Tokyo
Don’t wanta see her face any where I go tonight
    Tonight
    Yeah tonight

People looking at her she’s a freak show
People looking at her they don’t wanta know her
Everybody tired and they want her to go
Everybody’s tired they want her leave
    Now
    Forever
    Tonight

    Makeup! Makeup!
    Makeup! Makeup!

Makeup! Makeup! On a Saturday night

    Hi, Hilary
I don't even know if you read these but if you do I wanted to say that you are an incredibly talented singer and actress! Every time another movie with you in it comes out I always make sure I see it as soon as I can. When you were in Winnipeg I tried so hard to get tickets for your concert but it was virtually impossible. Your so pretty and a great role model. You never play in bad movies and you don't swear in your songs.
You'll always be #1 in my opinion.

It is really, realy, and if I didn't stress this enough really sad, that we live in a day and age where crap like this is considered talent, music, entertainment, or anything else remotely connected to REAL ART.

This girl is a marketing gimmick. A media whore straightup! Have you seen what they've done to this girl? I just saw something with her on it. She's had a boob job, collagen injections in her lips, her eyes done, her cheeks, and is anorexic. And what is she like 17? Oh my God! She looks like an anorexic Beverly Hills housewife. She looks like a mess.

The music industry is a sausage factory now. They take cutesy girls, and then turn them into prostitutes after a couple of years. It is the sickest thing I have ever seen next to the modeling industry.

They don't make music anylonger. What they make is a viable "safe" product, with sexual mixed messages, that they can cross over into MANY different forms of media, and mass market the hell out of. They suck the life from these girls, and then toss them aside like trash. And go...NEXT!

Sure these girls exit stage left rich. If they have a mother like Britney Spears that is. But they leave with a false, shattered self image, low self esteem, and no dignity whatsoever. Not mention any lasting remark on the music biz.We have basically reverted back to the 1950's in this country. With The Bush administration in office, all the neo conservatism, all the "terrorist commies", and all the "safe, pretty" girl singers.

It is just like the 1950's. You had Sandra Dee, Shelly Fabraes or however you spell her name, Anette Funicello. And behind all of this was a world in turmoil, scared of the "commies" and reds. It is EXACTLY the same now as it was then, if not worse. Because back then most people didn't think for themselves. Just like now. They think how they are told to think, or programmed.

This country has taken 5 steps backwards in it's progress. Not only in the development of culture and art, but in the way we view the REAL world around us. Sure we have technology and all. But what good is it if you no longer have freedom.

That means freedom to make decisions without the media constantly shoving marketing ploys down in your head. Freedom to believe in your political stance, and most off freedom to speak your mind against all the utter garbasge that exists today.

It's so totally gross...I want to barf!

  • 53 - Bob A. Booey

    Aug 26, 2005 at 6:43 am

    Interesting take, Blondbarf.

I don't know what it is, but I think she's gotten less cute and kind of angular/emaciated looking too.

The 1950s analogy isn't bad, but I've always tended to think we've been in the 1970s again culturally for a while, except that rock is dead and so is the pop tart/boy band genre as well. At least in the 1950s, you had good pop music and doo wop. Music today is a wasteland, like the early - mid 1970s.

    That is all.

I really don't like hilary duff. i think she is a horrible actress. she plays the same role in every freakn movie. she should really try and branch out, maybe try a movie with actual depth. her singing is AWFUL!!! i can't believe people listen to it. the only reason she is famous is because four year olds buy her junk. have you noticed that none of her movies go above a PG rating? thats because if they did she would lose her entire audience. plus, the media portrays her as this total goody two shoes. when, in reality, my friends older sister actually met her in a club and said she was really mean when asked who she was. i wish people would listen to real music and not pop computer junk. she doesn't even write her own lyrics! in my opinion you should not be able to perfrom unless you play your own instruments or write your own music. hilary does niether.

What's up with this girl's weight? I was watching a few minutes of an old Oprah rerun from last season with my broad last night and she looked really short and kinda heavy. But now I see her in some ads and pictures where she's almost too skinny, with gaunt cheekbones.

I realize her age might have a lot to do with the ups and downs, but it seems like two extremes.

And her boyfriend is such a poseur. He's so not punk and he's ten years older than her.

    Greatest Hits and Misses

Last month singer/actress Hillary Duff released her first greatest hits package “Most Wanted”, which debuted at number one on billboard’s album charts. It was the teen queen’s first number one record and most successful selling debut ever which begs the question. How does a teenager who has released only two albums and one Christmas compilation release a “Best of” compilation?

“Used to be a time when a band put out a “Greatest Hits/Best Of” compilation midway through their career,” wrote IGN writer Spence D. in his recent review of Duff’s “Most Wanted”. “Times have changed, however, and the new wave of pop stars tend to crank out “Greatest Hits/Best Of”, live and remix albums at the drop of a hat,” he added.

Journalist Nekesa Mumbi Moody recently wrote a very insightful and intriguing article for the Associated Press detailing the over flooding of the market with “Best of” compilations from artists associated with only one hit or a string of minor hits.

In the article Moody writes about some of the more questionable greatest-hits collections that have popped up in recent years including Duff’s “Most Wanted”, Britney Spears’ “Greatest Hits: My Prerogative,” (a retrospective of Spears’ six year recording career), “Toy Soldiers: The Best of Martika” (one hit wonder from the summer of 1989); “The Best of Mandy Moore,” (known more as an actress than singer) and “The Best of O.D.B.,” (the late troubled hip hop artist who spent time in prison during his short career).

In an online post on eBaum’s World forum one disgruntled individual scathingly attacked the tendencies of pop stars, most notably Hillary Duff, to release hits packages and denounced the people that purchased them saying, “Who the hell releases a greatest hits package after two albums? (Referring to Duff). “If you want the hit singles that badly, record them off the radio, download them, or buy the single discs! Otherwise, stop being so cheap and buy the freakin albums!”

The individual then listed three possible reasons for Duff to release a hits package so early: They were as follows:
    a) They (music executives) figure her career is pretty much over, so might as well put it out and make as much money off of her while they still can.
    b) New strategy to fight illegal downloading: release greatest hits packages after a couple of albums so people who just want the hits won't have to wait several years to pick up a compilation.
    c) Both... but mostly a

The shelf life of a teen pop star is very short so the tendency to over-saturate the market with countless recordings and merchandise is regarded as a way to fully capitalize on what is a viewed as a limited opportunity to make a profit.

“It’s all about money as usual,” said Canadian writer Marc Gervais. “Usually artists don’t have much of a choice when it comes to their own greatest hits packages.”

“Hits compilations are usually released to fill a contract obligation or when an artist leaves their old record company,” said Gervais. “The company then releases a hits album to squeeze every last amount of money they can before the artist starts making money with a new record company.”

That seems to be the case with new and old artists alike regardless if they’re pop, rock, hip-hop or country artists. “Best of” albums are an easy way to make money without spending much on making a brand new record.

“I guess with music becoming so disposable, things just happen so much faster now,” said Collective Soul guitarist Dean Roland in Nekesa Mumbi Moody’s article. “The short answer to the whole thing is it comes out to a money issue. The labels can put a greatest-hits album out and it’s going to sell.”

Seventies rockers turned 90’s video darlings Aerosmith have had their share of hits compilations and live records but the band insists that it’s not there doing but the record companies decision.

“Y’know, you sign a multimillion-dollar contract, and the label says you owe them four studio albums,” said Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler in a 2002 interview with Maxim magazine.

“ What they don’t tell you is that they’ve also got Greatest Hits tucked in there, Greatest Greatest Hits, the Not-So-Greatest Hits, the Outtakes, Classics Live, and Live Classics. They just keep releasing whatever they want to as long as the band’s relevant. Unfortunately for us, we’ve remained relevant. It’s f**king insane,” added Tyler.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the top selling hits albums in U.S history are: 1.) Eagles “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975” (28 Million). 2.) Billy Joel “Hits Vol. I & II” (21 million). 3.) The Beatles “1967-1970” (16 Million). 4.) Elton John “Greatest Hits” (16 Million). 5.) The Beatles (1962-1966) (15 Million).

The Eagles Greatest Hits album overcame Michael Jackson’s Thriller to become the top selling album in the U.S of all-time. It’s very unlikely that compilations from mall queen Tiffany or early 90’s rap act PM Dawn will appear on this list any time soon.

It can be said that the music industry’s short attention span coupled with an even shorter shelf space retailers offer has led to this fluctuation of unnecessary “Best of” compilations.

“Everyone is vying for limited space in an ever crowded market and artists have to get their product out to as many people as possible,” said writer Marc Gervais. “I can’t tell you how many times I go to a record store and an album I want that contains a certain song is never in stock so a hits album is good in that regard since it may contain the songs you want.”

It seems the days when hits albums were summary points to an artist career and not just cash grabs are over. The hits package used to be an integral part of a fans collection for those fans that owned all or most of a certain artists discography. Now a hits album may be the only record that is bought from a certain artist.

The longevity and viability of artists has changed over the years, as has the music industry as a whole. Other than a handful of contemporary artists nobody seems destined to release the next “Hot Rocks” (The Rolling Stones) or “Smash Hits” (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) or even something on par with the latest Guns n’ Roses hits album.

“I just bought Pearl Jam’s hits record and that is a hell of a ‘best of’ CD,” said Gervais. “Hits albums like Pearl Jam’s ‘Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003)’ and Neil Young’s 2004 hits record are timeless and will always have a place within people’s hearts.”

“It’s soundtrack music to people’s lives, not some flash in the pan some teeny bopper dances to in her room,” Gervais said. “This years hot new hits compilation from the latest mini pop is next years bargain bin item. Like seriously, are people really going to remember Lindsay Lohan in fifty years?”
