Heavy Trash - Heavy Trash

He may have been knocking out sleazy rock with the Blues Explosion for the last 14 years but even Jon Spencer likes to kick back and take it easy once in a while.

That's where Heavy Trash comes in, with Spencer teaming up with Matt Verta-Ray, previously of Madder Rose and Speedball Baby, to knock out some old school jams.

Not as raucous or self-obsessed as the Blues Explosion, Heavy Trash is both more upbeat and, goddamn it, more fun. "Justine Alright," a perfect example of the simple and direct Heavy Trash sound, is distinctly rockabilly and, in places, a bit Sun-era Elvis. While Spencer's at his hip-shaking finest during the slick posturing of "The Loveless," thanks in part to a gloriously spat-out chorus ("They call me The Loveless, I'm a mean son of a bitch"). But, for the doubters that think Heavy Trash can't do anything other than up-tempo blasts, the low-slung bourbon-soaked dirge of "Under The Waves" should prove otherwise.

The laid back porch sound of two mates kicking back, with little more than a guitar and some six packs for company, Heavy Trash is old school rock 'n' roll at its swampy finest. Hot damn!

Decide for yourself! You can listen to standout track "Justine Alright" here

    Greg,

I have flung this heartily and mightily up on Advance.net. Let's hope it sticks.

The review can be found at a few different places on the Advance network around the country, but here's one of them.

    Thank you
