American Idiot Lyrics

By Green Day

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation that under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

I went to see Green Day last Saturday night (the 3rd) with an open mind. The evening air in Foxboro Mass was cool and cisp and felt like fall. It brought back many memories of football games and pep rallies the night before the game...sigh... I wasn't real familliar with the band but had of course, heard various of their songs on the radio. I had liked what I heard and so I was looking forward to the show. The song I remembered most recently was American Idiot and that was the song that they started the concert with.

Over the course of the concert I discovered that I like Green Day a lot. They are great performers and their enery level is incredible. They kept going at a frantic pace for almost 2 straight hours and the quality of the music didn't suffer a bit because of it. I guess that is why they won 7 awards this year at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Green Day is known for being a somewhat political punk band. To me though punk was always political in some way, even if only in expressing the condition of the middle class American adolescent male. Green Day's political leanings were evident through the course of the evening and ranged from Billie's introducing himself as George Bush (to boos from the crowd) to him reminding the audience that it was them, as individuals, who really hold the power in this country and the world and asking them to use their power.

I really wish I'd seen them a few years ago before this rock opera bullshit.

I love their old songs, but they only play a few of them now like the biggest hits from Dookie.

    That is all.

I went to the foxboro show and I thought it was the best concert I've ever been. For those that think that hating a band because they put out a masterpeice should be happy that they can actually do something more than a few memorable songs.

I had the chance to see them August 10th in Rosemont, IL, the concert that kicked off their spring tour. It was so awesome, and I didn't except it to be that great. they really got the crowd invovled. I have a wholoe new found respect for them.

I love Green Day, they're one of my favorite bands, and they're incredible live. I was rather disappointed going to the Gillette show, simply because I hadn't gotten what I had paid 50$ for. This is not an insult at all to Green Day, but rather to the stadium. It turned out that the general admission tickets I had paid for, were only good for the first 4,000 people to arrive at the show. All in all, my friends and I were stuck behind a gate, that was about like a mile away.
Don't get me wrong, no matter what seats I had, Green Day kicks ass live.

I heard that a girl passed out at Gilette Stadium, and she actually met Green Day...
I went to their concert Aug. 19th at houston, it freakin rocked! If I was a tad older and I was at the front of the crowd when they asked for volunteers to go up and play... I would've screamed as loud as my lungs could let me just to go up stage and play the bass or guitar....

One more thing... Why is Green Day getting recongnized for their hardwork NOW? I mean, they've always been a freakin awesome band, but why see them amazing NOW? Green Day's been around 16 years and now they're the biggest band ever...

I went to that concert! I'm a new Green Day fan and it was my first Green Day concert ever! I was not disappointed at all! It was all I expected it to be and much much much more! They rocked, and I have to agree the energy is amazing! Ever since American idiot came out I've been working my @$$ off to buy their other CDs I have 6 now and ALL of them I'm in love with! Anyway, Green Day is the best band in the F**KING WORLD and I'm extremely sorry i wasn't a fan sooner! If somehow Green Day reads this I say to them, Keep on rockin! I'm only 12 and I plan to go to MANY more of your concerts!! I love all your stuff old and new!!

    Signed,
    A loyal and devoted fan!
    Nina!!! ^_^

WOW! I went to the Gilette show and it was AMAZING!As usual Green Day kicked some A$$. The only problem i had was the sound in the stadium. From where i was the Bass was up WAYYYY to loud for the opening acts, but don't get me wrong, I love them and I can't wait to go to their next tour when their new album comes out.

In reference to An Angry Guy's post...

Yeah, same thing happened to me. Only the first 4,000 people were allowed past that gate or whatever. So i was RIGHT behind the gate and it really wasn't that bad. But it still sucked that i couldn't be closer. I'm sorry that you were like a mile away although i'm sure that's an exaggeration. Haha.

    Sep 09, 2005 at 7:08 pm

Oh, and to Alex Honkana...I was like 2 feet a way from you then. Haha. I was pretty damn close to that kid. Too bad i'm not a drummer. I could have done guitar or bass, but he didn't look in that direction when choosing those parts.

It sucked how I was like far away, but Green Day is always great live, i still had a blast.
