Grammy Performers Announced

The Recording Academy announced today the names of some of those who will be performing on the 48th Annual Grammy Awards: Mariah Carey, John Legend, and Kanye West. All three artists are up for eight awards each. More performers will be announced in the near future.

Mariah Carey's The Emancipation Of Mimi is nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Contemporary R&B Album. Her song, "We Belong Together," received nods in the following categories: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "It's Like That" is nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and "Mine Again" is highlighted in the Best Performance category.

Newcomer John Legend's "Ordinary People" received three nominations: Song Of The Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. "Stay With You" is honored in the Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance category. His album Get Lifted was nominated for Best R&B Album. Legend was also nominated for Best New Artist, and his collaboration with Kanye West and Common, "They Say," in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration rounded out his nods from the academy.

Aside from the aforementioned collaboration, Kanye West received Record Of The Year, and Best Rap Solo Performance nominations for "Gold Digger." He was nominated in the Album of the Year category for both Late Registration and The Emancipation Of Mimi, which he served as producer on. "Unbreakable" was highlighted in the Best R&B Song category and " Diamonds From Sierra Leone" was nominated for Best Rap Song. His album Late Registration is also up for Best Rap Album.

The 48th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live Wednesday, Feb. 8, from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be on radio via Westwood One worldwide, and covered online at Grammy.yahoo.com.
