Gonzalez supports data retention laws
American Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez has announced support of data retention laws. He has been meeting with internet service providers to drum up support for the laws that would increase the time that records on consumers’ internet activities are kept to two years. Critics of the legislation say that upping the requirements would be costly. They also expressed some concern about civil rights violations springing from the record retention.
Intel builds wireless internet tower on Amazon island
Intel has built a tower for WiMax in the Brazilian city of Parintins which is a city on an island in the Amazon basin with a population of about 114,000. The tower will connect a hospital, a university, a community center and two schools to a broadband network. Intel is estimating that the service will benefit 10,000 community members in Parintins and about 1,500 students.
Liza Minnelli appears on next My Chemical Romance album
Singer Liza Minnelli is lending her vocals on a song on the upcoming album The Black Parade. Minnelli did some vocals for the track “Mama” for My Chemical Romance for free. The Black Parade is due out this October.
