Get well wishes for Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, who's recovering from cardiac bypass surgery. Apparently Johnston has been well enough to briefly interact with fans online, and is set to rejoin the band for a November tour of the UK. Interesting trivia point is that although Bruce was Brian's touring stand-in for years as well as contributing gorgeous harmony parts for California Girls and God Only Knows, he wasn't actually billed as a member of the Beach Boys until the Wild Honey album.

thanks TP, Bruce's status with the Beach Boys has always been an oddity, not quite that of the originals despite 35 years as a Boy - it shows how stuck we are on foundation myths. Anyway, best wishes Bruce!

Bruce Johnston is very underrated. Also, I think he also wrote "I Write The Songs" which of course, became a monster hit for Barry Manilow.
I dig his "Going Public" album from years back, and need to pick that one up on CD one of these days.

It's been 20 years since I last spoke to Bruce ... I was programming KNX FM here in L.A, and he was producing a group called Curt Betcher & California ... which we of course, played.
