Fundies exploit Great White Fire.

I suppose it had to happen; American's own version of the Taliban use the terrible club tragedy to promote their miserable brand of joyless puritanism. This site calling itself Rock Tragedy says this about the Great White tragedy.

The club-goers entered the bar looking for drinks, rock-and-roll and a good time, not suspecting that it would be their final night on earth. In seconds, revelry and abandon became terror and death.

As they gasped for breath and the flames and darkness increased, they no doubt prayed to God. Everyone facing death prays for help.

But were their prayers heard?

God alone knows.

Even though nightclubs and rock shows are notoriously wicked places, those who died will be eulogized as being 'good' people who did not deserve to die.

But that's not true. The Bible says that because of our sins, we all deserve to die.

What's even more disconcerting is the fact that many who will read this article will go to a place that will for all eternity be exactly like that flaming club - full of darkness and eternal smoke and torment.

The same site goes to condemn all brands of Christian Rock as sellouts to the Devil, and laughably uses as an example of their 'depravity' the fact than alchohol was served at a promotional reception for one band. The horror!

These fucks actually paid money for a text ad on Google.

Here's what I just posted on my site:

Nothing angers me more than people who use Christianity to spew hate.

Believe me, there's nothing in the Bible that condones trash like this.

This isn't the love of Christ.

Christ showed only love to those who were apartment from God, and only Christ could see the heart of a sinner. We, as mortals, no matter how schooled in the Bible, or how strong our faith, or how sure of our belief, are not Christ. We are not here to judge or condemn.

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the Church?" Paul wrote to the Corinthians. "God will Judge those outside the Church." (1 Cor. 5:12-13).

The same sort of thing appears at godhatesfags.com in their February fliers (pdf file). The fire happened because Providence elected a gay mayor.

All their antics achieve is provoke a backlash against Christianity as a whole. See one or two comments in the Demon Hunter post as evidence; http://www.blogcritics.org/archives/2002/11/12/072809.php

Of course, these fundamentalists wear persecution as a badge of pride. Us non-fundie Christians who also get hit by the same backlash aren't exactly grateful for that.

These fundies(Rev.Phelps) came to my hometown last month. They believe in election (god chooses who he will bless and who he condemns from the get go,i presume from the womb or before)yet they believe the homosexual can be saved. This is their contradiction. I asked them, "If someone is chosen as God's elect and lives a homosexual lifestyle, yet abandons that lifestyle because God "saves them" then in essence isn't God condoning homosexuality, because God had already chosen the person as his child? They scratched their heads and told me "It don't look good for you buddy." No answer, just hate.

I suspect Fred Phelps is actually clinically psychotic. If not, he's in the same league of Evil as Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, in intent if not in means.

All religious leaders should be exterminated immediately. Science is the only way out.

Glad to see people picked this up and ran with it. This really fucked me off. The post that is linked above is the second version of it, the first version truly reflected my ire.

Fundies, whether they be Islamic, Christian or Hindu are just varying shades of evil.

No doubt these dolts will be glad to hear about the goings-on in Morocco where a bunch of metalheads were jailed for being metalheads.

There were a few people who thought the idea of Great White fans dieing is good for laugh. Does a prejudiced taste is music really need to go THAT far?

I'm a Christian. I believe in pre destination(IE-election)...but the "election" they talked about is not what I believe.

Anyway, if my band ever makes it, you know there's gonna be mad alcohol at our party! And they can put that on their website and suck it!

It's times like these when I think I finally understand the passage that says (roughly), "Many will come saying, Lord, did we not....and He will say to them, Depart from me, I never knew you." What a shame that these losers claim to represent Christ. Jesus saved his anger and violence for those who claimed to speak for God while cheating others. Those who sinned, He welcomed with open arms.

I'm not a fan of Great White, and I don't tend to go to nightclubs, but these people are ridiculous extremists, and they don't even come close to representing the views of mainstream or fundamental Christianity.

Er, Matthew 7 is the passage I was thinking of, by the way.

P.S. I'm also trying very hard not to pass harsh judgement on the apparent fools who've made such ridiculous statements, on the theory that being merciful is the way to go here. It's very, very hard. I'm far more offended at what these people who call themselves do than anything anybody following a different belief system might say.

    To Ted Smith.

Get a life Bud. Have you ever read in the Bible "let He who without sin, cast the first stone". And who are you to judge who is going to hell.

Well, I was unable to view the site mentioned. However, it all depends upon the attitude of the people talking about the tragedy. If they are truly trying to warn the world of hell....why not?

It's true, the average person is going to hell. If you really believe this and believe God's word...get the message out at all cost so that at least they are without excuse when they get there.

It's people like you that make me realize why our founding fathers made sure we seperate church and state. It's too bad the people who believe this forgot what they were taught "Love Thy Neighbor, as Thyself" I guess it would be to much to ask these people to practice what their bible says to preach. I think if Jesus was walking the earth today these people would shut the door in his face because he isn't a right wing nut!

What about the saying "I am my Brothers' keeper!" When did we cross this fanatical line, filled with hate and anger? It's driven by fear and bigotry! Did it ever occur to the fundies that they are the ones who are going straight to hell? They are the ones talking trash and putting people who listen to any kind of music
in a box, as though we are all alike! It's not suprising we are so far removed from one another. Something tells me this isn't what Your profit would do. But what the fuck do I know? I listen to reggae music,I am a sinner, I smoke a little religious herb, and that's my freedom of religion! Rasta! Rasta! In the words of the profit Bob Marley "Free Yourself"
