Freedmen’s Bureau Records to go Online
The records from the Freedmen’s Bureau are set to go online. The bureau’s records, used to reconnect families, are going to be placed online by The Virginia Freedmen Project. The project is preparing to digitize 200,000 images collected by the Richmond bureau, including such things as bank forms and work contracts. The bureau was established in 1865 in help freed slaves adjust to life and get on their feet.
New Software Allows Private Blogversations
Six Apart, Ltd. has unveiled a blogging tool allowing users to have levels of security to better control who can and can not see blog entries and comments. The new tool is called Vox. It has five levels of security and is being aimed at users over 25. In addition to the privacy features, it is also designed with templates to allow users to incorporate content from other sites such as Flickr and YouTube and a “question of the day” to encourage regular writing.
Snow Patrol Cancels End of European Tour
Snow Patrol has announced it is cancelling the remaining dates in its European tour. The cancellation is due to an injury suffered by Paul Wilson, the band’s bassist. According to a post on the band’s website, the bassist has hurt his arm and shoulder and has been advised to take some time off. There were four dates cancelled over the weekend and into the beginning of next week. Snow Patrol is expected to head back out on the road for dates scheduled in Ireland and the U.K. at the end of the year.
The operating system Windows Vista, which was due to be released to manufacturers on October 25th, has been delayed until November 8th. The OS had a bug that could have required a complete re-install of the software or could possibly paralyze an upgraded Vista-capable Windows XP operating system. Windows Vista does not have an official release date, although Microsoft says it is on schedule for a general release of Vista in January.
