VH1 is running this series where they track down defunct bands from the 80s and try to get them to reform for a one night stand. Yesterday, VH1 "reunited" the 80s band A Flock Of Seagulls. It had probably been twenty years since the original members played with each other, and it showed. But the main thing was the singer. Apparently, he's still touring with a band called A Flock Of Seagulls (he's the only original member). If you get the chance to see them, don't. His voice (never all that strong to begin with) sounds completely ragged out and worthless. I was embarassed for the guy, listening to him mangle "I Ran" and "Space Age Love Song".

I can't believe it was 1982 when I saw those guys. They were the warm-up act for Squeeze, their album had just been released (before "I Ran" and "Space Age Love Song" had hit the airwaves), and we thought they were the best thing since, well, The Cars. They were certainly better live than Squeeze. Of course, I was young at the time, but it was still a great show......

i just want to say that the flock reunion was awsome and i hope they would tour. If your not from the 80s you wouldnt understand!!

Sorry, Dan, I did grow up in the 80s. I still like Kajagoogoo's Too Shy (it's a kickin' bass line), but the guys from Flock have not aged well. The singer's voice was completely ragged out, he sang flat and seemed to be out of breath more often than not. I stand by my opinion.

The first two Flock of Hairdoos were great - they still really hold up well, although the production is a bit, uh, wet. But I believe you about the voice. I saw some later version at a little club in LA after their prime and it was perfunctory at best.
I remember them rocking at the US Festival in the early-'80s and they were good, but they used a LOT of treatments and whatnot - their sound was always studio-based.

Space Age Love Song is one of the best songs of all time. But his voice has not aged well. It did sound anemic.

come on guys, a flock of seagulls deserves better treatment than what i am reading. if you listen to ANY band that is still around from the 80's, none of them sound as they originally did, not in voice or in upbeat tempo. a flock of seagulls kicks major butt, just listen to their greatest hits cd, every song is the BEST.
