Best of Re-recorded
Molly Hatchet
(SPV)
Second string southern rockers Molly Hatchet have always been decent but not top tier rockers. A band that was in the right place at the right time after Skynrd's demise, they released some decent albums in the 80s. Lots of line-up changes later the band has been doing the greatest hits circuit for quite a while. There have been several different greatest hits album, both live and in studio. This latest version is to celebrate their 25h Aniversary and is a re-recording of 17 of their more famous tracks. As you can imagine the sound is cleaner and better that it even has been. It has to be admitted that tracks like 'Flirtin with Disaster', 'Whiskey Man' and 'Beatin the Odds' put a smile on this critics face. (NB: Molly Hatchet was my first ever rock gig.) Some of the rest of the stuff can start to sound a bit a samey. There is little here to recomend buying it if you already either have a GH or live set from the band. However, if you are new to the band and like your rock southern fried, then there is no better introduction to the band. Hey, it's fun, fairly vacuous but still bloody satisfying. And it's always neat to see a new incantation of the famous sword and sorcery covers.

I didn't realize these guys covered Freebird until recently, and their version is not bad.
