Five Country Songs That Caught My Eye Today: Kellie Pickler, Sugarland, Lonestar, Martina McBride, and Taylor Swift

I have a friend that told me that everyone likes country music. However, not everyone will admit it. Country is more than “My dog died and I lost my truck.” I just thought I’d get that out there. Country music is beautiful and actually has a meaning in it unlike many other forms of music. So, today, I put my computer on shuffle to profile five absolutely great country songs.

The first one that came on was “Small Town Girl” by Kellie Pickler on her album Small Town Girl. The cool thing about this song is it very lively and upbeat, but still maintains its country image. However, it also drifts into the pop category a bit, which is nice because there are a lot of people who like pop and may sway into country music. Wonderful, wonderful song. It shows Kellie is proud of where she came from, which is already a good quality. She may not have won American Idol, but this girl is incredibly talented.

“Settlin’” by Sugarland came on next. “Settlin’” is not on their new album, but can be found on their album Enjoy The Ride. It’s my favorite Sugarland song. It has a great message and great lyrics: I’m not settlin’ for anything less than everything. Again, people who like pop may find this song quite enjoyable. Don’t settle for anything less than this song. Yes, I’m aware how lame that was.

Let’s move on to our next song—“Walking In Memphis.” Let me put it this way “Walking in Memphis” by Lonestar (Found on the album From Here to There) is the fifth most played song out of the 874 songs on my computer. Um, yeah. I’d have to say it rocks. It makes me want to go to Memphis. I’m so addicted to this song.

It turns out I am living proof this is actually not true, but we're very happy to have someone writing about country music for the people who do love it. Nice job, Maddy.

good job maddy. i had intended on mentioning josh as a sure counterexample to the "everybody loves country" thing but i see that he's already checked in.

so here's a question i've wanted to ask somebody from your age group: what do you think about more traditional country music? Loretta Lynn (i highly recommend the record she did with Jack White from the White Stripes), Hank Williams, or even somebody who crosses over but still remains fairly traditional like Dwight Yoakam.

She is hopeless with the classic stuff. Two days ago, I heard "who's Conway Twitty?" No one mention Waylon Jennings because if she disses Waylon, she moves out.

I like Taylor because all her songs on the album are worth listening to like Shania Twain's albums. Taylor Swift really is a goddess because she has been selected to be the spokesperson for the Venus Embrace.
Martina McBride is awesome. I have been to 7 of her concerts!
I cannot comment on the other 3 artists because I am not familiar with their music.
