So I'm a Blogcritic. Yay. But is there anything I could write about?
Thinking about it, I decided to post individual reviews now and then, and to write a weekly column on my favorite kinds of music, Electroclash and minimal electronic/ house. I'm not going to concentrate on new releases exclusively, but will provide you with a mixed overview of classics and news that are on heavy rotation in my flat and in the clubs where I'm DJing.
Ok, enough blabbering, here’s with my first three recommendations:
Felix Da Housecat - Devin Dazzle & The Neon Fever
Felix' album Kittenz and Thee Glitz, released 2001, was about the most important House-/ Electro-album of the decade and, for a lot of people, redefined the a whole genre. So, my expectations where quite high when I finally got a copy of this new album. Felix has not let me down - Devin Dazzle features 15 tracks , glittery, funky, yet often quite retroish and analog. Extremely creative, and respecting no genre borders, Felix did it again. A must have for everyone who's into electronic music, funk, or disco. Overall rating: 5 out of 5 glitterdabbers.
Miss Kittin - I Com
I love Miss Kittin. I adore her. I wish to marry her. Nuff said. *g*
No, ok, seriously, this album is amazing. While other artists of the genre never get beyond copying their heroes of the 80ties, Miss Kittin manages to provide us with a very unique mixture of retroish analog sounds and modern techno. Most tracks on this album are very sophisticated, and repetitive loops are rare, which makes the album is a whole awesome. The downside is that there’s no single track that really stands out, with the exception of the extremely funny „Requiem for a Hit“. Overall rating: 4 out of 5 Minimoogs.
Legowelt - Classics 1998-2003
Finally, a hard to find classic vinyl. Legowelt, best known for their one-hit wonder "Disco Rout" in Europe, are an amazing blend of old-school electronica that often remind you of Kraftwerk, and modern minimal techno/ house. Most of their tracks is afterhour music, not too fast, and without any vocals at all. Perfect music for driving the Autobahn - pun intended. Overall rating: 4 out of 5 Roboter.
So much for now - let me know if you'd like the reviews to be more detailed, or shorter, or wether you don't care at all. Stay tuned, more eurotrash next week.
