Enter To Win: Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road Deluxe Edition

For nearly 30 years Lucinda Williams has been playing her own blend of country, blues, rock, and folk music. She has won three Grammys, was hailed as TIME magazine's “best American songwriter” in 2002 and been covered by artist as varied as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Tom Petty, and Emmylou Harris.

My favorite album of hers, and in fact one of my favorite albums of any kind by anyone ever, is Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. It’s full of the blues and country twang, with buckets full of longing and heartbreak and sexuality. No kidding, it’s sexy as anything. Just listen to “Right In Time” and tell me you’re not ready to turn the lights out yourself.

PubPhotoLoResAnd if there is a song more full of longing than “Jackson” I don’t know what it is.

A full-on double disk deluxe edition has just been released and I’m happy to announce Blogcritics Magazine has three copies to give away.

The album features the original album, plus three never before released outtakes and alternate tracks (“Out of Touch" – which was re-recorded for 2001’s Essence, a stripped-down reading of the 1920’s blues classic “Down the Big Road Blues,” and the alternate version of “Still I Long For Your Kiss.”)

The second disk includes a live performance for WXPN’s “Live at the World Café.” Included are nine songs from the Car Wheels album, plus four other Lucinda originals.

All songs have been completely remastered.

If I remember correctly, this album was forever in the making, and it sounds as natural and off the cuff as breathing. Absolutely beautiful - theh title track is my go to song here.
