What's best for longtime L&M fans is seeing the interplay between the stars of the show. Messina and Loggins frequently talk to each other off-mic, share smiles and a couple of hugs, and play almost as one during guitar breaks. It's thrilling to see the two connect as musical partners and, apparently, as friends. When Messina announces that the final song will be the first tune they ever recorded together, Loggins' classic "Danny's Song," it warms the heart to see him watching in seeming awe as his friend vocally caresses each word. Clearly, the audience is moved by seeing and hearing the reunited duo in action, and so will those who see the DVD, be they old or new fans.
The DVD extras include performances from L&M's 1973 appearance on the old NBC music series Midnight Special. The classic footage is a kick to watch - Loggins is the innocent, slightly manic, longhaired sprite of old; babyfaced Messina is clearly the confident veteran in charge. Seeing the 32-year-old footage underscores the joy that comes from seeing the two as equals in 2005.
There is also a CD version of Sittin' In Again; it does not include all of the songs featured on the DVD, but it is a worthy addition to a L&M-phile's collection.
While I hope to see both Loggins and Messina continue on as vital solo artists, the reunion concert leaves me with the hope that they will partner again in the future. Sittin' In Again only features old material; it would be interesting to see whether the duo has anything new to say for today's audiences. I bet they do. In the meantime, check out the DVD or CD: They are a testament to two compelling soloists and to one still-amazing musical collective.

Thanks, Natalie, for a wonderful, and honest, review. I found songs on the DVD that I'd forgotten were so fun, especially "Growin'". Both Kenny & Jimmy have just gotten better with age; perhaps it's a refined sense of harmony and true friendship. Who else could sing of geing a friend but these two.
