A farewell gig by Candlemass in front of a frothing Stockholm, hometown crowd is going to be special isn't it? Recorded in 2003, The Curse of Candlemass DVD accurately captures the vibe and essence of this quintessential doom act. The first disc of this set includes 14 tracks from all parts of Candlemass’ career, including "Witches" and, of course, "At the Gallows End," played at the end...naturally.
On the second disc, you get four rare live tracks featuring the band's previous lead singers, as well as a hysterical appearance on a Swedish pop TV show where the singer has to lip-sync and the audience looks positively bemused (never mind the host). The disc also includes a 55- minute interview with the band; alas, it’s in Swedish, so unless you have a Scandinavian mate you might be a bit stuffed. (The Amazon.com page seems to suggest it has subtitles; alas, mine does not.)
All in all, this a good package: it isn't terribly flash, but it truly reflects the band. Candlemass fans will find this DVD essential, while those of a doom disposition will be able to see just why this band is so influential on the doom scene.

Nice to see a review for a great band who hardly gets the credit they deserve.
Candlemass was definately a pioneering band and this DVD is a must for any real metal fan's collection. For anyone who hasn't listened to them, "Tales of Creation" was their pinnacle release and is "timeless" in my opinion....

I regret I never had a chance to see Candlemass live. I don't think they toured much of Canada.
What's the running time on the DVD?
