Ian Anderson provides great insight into the genesis of the band, as well as his flute playing, and provided some first hand Flute 101 for the viewer. The modest Anderson downplays his prowess with the flute, but the man wields it like a sword, and plays it like Hendrix did his axe. 1970 was still early for the band, as they eventually got grander with their arrangements and lyrics as they morphed into one of the more dynamic prog rock acts of the 70s. Here they are more of a straightforward rock band, plus a flute of course. Anderson’s stage presence and sense of humor are well honed even if his band’s identity wasn’t.
The DVD is a great addition to the Jethro Tull collection, as well as a nice document of a particular moment in rock history.
