Down To Earth - Deep Purple CDs survived Columbia tragedy

Astronaut Kalpana Chawla, a victim of the February 1 Columbia space shuttle disaster, took into space with her three CDs - Deep Purple's Machine Head, Purpendicular, and Rainbow's Down To Earth, (mistakenly attributed as Purpendicular in the linked article.) Somehow, the two Deep Purple discs survived not only the destruction of the shuttle but the plunge from 39 miles up, and Chawla's husband presented the two DP discs to the band at a September concert, but kept Rainbow as a memento.

That is amazing.
