Dodo Marmarosa, the unique bebop pianist, died on September 17th. Marmarosa's story is of the tragic variety so often found in music (especially in jazz), but that shouldn't obscure his real talents at the keyboard. If you enjoy this style of music, I'd recommend starting with either Up in Dodo's Room, an overview of his work on the Dial Label, or his collaboration with saxophone great Gene Ammons, Jug and Dodo.
"A sinister cabal of superior writers."
