Dead Milkmen Bassist Dave Blood Dies

Sad news for Dead Milkmen fans, bassist Dave Blood committed suicide, Tuesday night (3/9/04). My best friend Beth sent me here.

The Dead Milkmen are best known for their song "Punk Rock Girl", a kitschy ode to punk culture. Their quirky, self-conscious lyrics chronicling the punk life with social commentary and catchy riffs made them a cult favorite.

Dave's sister, Kathy, lists their mother's passing in January and Dave's lack of worthwhile projects since the band's breakup as contributing to his depression and subsequent suicide.

Those wishing to express grief and wish well to family and bandmembers can do so here.

gees, you wouldn't think somebody involved with tunes like "Bitchin' Camero", "Punk Rock Girl" or "My Many Smells" would suffer from depression....but there ya go.

I actually like "Bitchin' Camero" better than "Punk Rock Girl". As for his depression, you know, art is synonymous with pain, so go figure.

    Thanks Dawn.

What does it mean if you find depression depressing?

In the words of Alpha Blondy who was a management client of mine years ago: 'my soul aches for you, tear drops running down"

Dave was just trying to stop the pain of a lost and confused soul. He went as far as the big sleep to stop it.

It is getting lonely on this rock, too many ghosts. Dave, may your light shine down to us. I remember you told me the funniest joke back in 1986.

What a tragedy. The Dead Milkmen were one of the few musical bright spots in the 1980's for me, and their work holds up today. I particulary like "Brat of the Frats" and their James Brown parody: "Gonna beat My wife/Gonna run her over with a Brinks truck!" And today that song is eerily accurate!

On a more serious note, it's sad that he couldn't seek help. People driven to end their own lives, are, in my humble opinion, extremely lost. I'll post a condolence message on that board.

Doesn't it seem like the world is getting more depressed and suicidal?
