Dead Can Dance reunite

Dead Can Dance, one of music's most successful ethereal, gothic, ambient, cross-cultural bands, has reunited after a 9-year hiatus and are touring both Europe and North America in 2005.

Fronted by vocalists/ istrumentalists Lisa Gerrad and Brendan Perry, DCD first formed in Australia in 1981 and moved to England the following year. With other musicians have been in band, Gerrard and Perry have been the core members.

Discography
Dead Can Dance, 1984
Spleen and Ideal, 1986
Within The Realm of a Dying Sun, 1987
The Serpent's Egg, 1988
Aion, 1990
A Passage In Time, 1991
Into The Labyrinth, 1993
Toward The Within soundtrack & DVD, 1994
Spiritchaser, 1996

For the beginner, I would suggest getting the 2003 double disc compilation Wake: The Best of Dead Can Dance. Regardless of where a new listener starts, I suspect they will want to hear the entire discography.

During the hiatus, Gerrad released some solo work The Mirror Pool and Duality, as well as the soundtracks for Whale Rider and Gladiator. Perry released a solo album, Eye of the Hunter, in 1999.

Limited edition recordings of their 2005 concerts are now available, but are limited to 500 copies each. Hopefully, we'll see a new studio album from them soon.

Also, check out Eric Olsen's review of their 2001 boxed set, Dead Can Dance 1981 - 1998.

Their performance on Saturday was phenomenal - from the opening note of their uncharacterizable music to the end of the evening. There were a few pieces that I couldn't recognize from any of their previous works and in my opinion they were just as good as Aion or Within the Realm of a Dying Sun.
